What's included

144 live meetings
144 in-class hours
Homework
1-2 hours per week. HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS At the beginning of each block children will be provided with a set of Main Lesson Book focussed homework assignments based on the current block and previous learning. Although this is optional, we do recommend that children complete the homework in order to strengthen classroom learning. If completed homework is sent to the teacher you will receive feedback.
Assessment
We believe in continuous feedback. Instead of focusing solely on end-of-unit tests, we use ongoing formative assessments. These could be interactive activities, short responses, or even lively discussions. This approach allows us to celebrate progress, catch misunderstandings early on, and adjust our teaching to support each student's individual learning journey.

Class Experience

US Grade 1
Embark on a Transformative First-Grade Adventure!

Our program harmoniously blends the enriching principles of Waldorf education with foundational learning standards. Through immersive exploration, storytelling, and artistic expression, your child will develop essential skills in reading, writing, mathematics, and scientific inquiry, while growing as a thinker, problem-solver, and creator.

∙ BLOCK BASED LEARNING ∙

We utilize a unique block-based learning approach, where students immerse themselves in a single theme for 2-4 weeks at a time. This focused exploration fosters deep understanding, sparks connections across subjects, and empowers learners to achieve mastery.

∙ WHAT WILL BE TAUGHT? ∙

⦿ Language Arts:
Language arts are woven into every block, enhancing your child's communication and literacy skills across all subjects. Learners will build a strong foundation in phonics, sight words, and basic writing, while exploring stories and poetry to foster a love for reading.

⦿ Math:
Master the basics of addition, subtraction, and the four operations through engaging activities and storytelling. Discover number patterns, simple problem-solving techniques, and the practical use of mathematics in everyday life.

⦿ Science:
Explore the wonders of nature through studies of minerals and plants. Investigate the properties of rocks and soils, the life cycle of plants, and the vital roles they play in our world.

⦿ Creative Expression:
Experiment with drawing, painting, and other art forms, nurturing creativity and self-expression. Students will create beautiful Main Lesson book pages that capture their learning journey, combining art with academic content.

Learning Goals
By the end of First Grade in our Waldorf-Inspired Curriculum class, learners will have developed an enriched understanding of language arts, math, science, and art.

In Language Arts, learners will expand their reading skills to identify words and simple sentences, cultivating a broad vocabulary through engaging stories and texts. They will start to write independently, learning to construct sentences and express ideas coherently. These activities will also serve to nurture their listening skills and enhance comprehension abilities.

In Math, learners will build on their Kindergarten foundation to gain a deeper understanding of numbers up to 100. They will master basic addition and subtraction facts, and will be introduced to the concept of place value. Activities will involve manipulatives and real-world examples to make abstract concepts more tangible.

For Science, the focus will be on fostering a greater appreciation and understanding of the natural world. Learners will explore various ecosystems, life cycles, the water cycle, and basic astronomy concepts. This experiential learning will nurture their observation skills, scientific curiosity, and environmental stewardship.

In Art, learners will delve deeper into various art forms, enhancing their fine motor skills and creativity. They will have opportunities to express themselves through drawing, painting, and crafting, promoting their understanding of shapes, colors, and patterns.

The integration of movement and music throughout the curriculum supports the development of gross motor skills, rhythm, and coordination. It also enriches their socio-emotional learning, fostering collaboration, respect, and empathy.

Overall, the goal for First Grade learners is to expand their knowledge, nurture their curiosity, encourage creativity, and develop well-rounded skills for their academic journey. They'll grow in a holistic environment that emphasizes cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development.

Parental Guidance
Depending on your learner's abilities, you will have to prepare the materials for your learner so they are able to start the activity with me. You may also need to support your learner in the art activities. An example is providing them with paint, glue or maybe cut up the tissue paper for patchwork pictures. You will have instructions on what to prepare at the start of each week. The teacher will set your child activities to do at home in family time. If you choose to complete the homeschool activities set by the teacher you will work alongside your child to do this. (please note this is not live class time and the extra work is not compulsory) Sometimes we may also do some movement (for example making shapes with our bodies), which you can supervise.
