WELCOME SHOOTING STARS! 💫 Shooting Star Academy’s full curriculum First Grade class gives learners a complete classroom experience with writing, STEM science, storytime, beginning linguistics in Spanish, intermediate English Language Arts, and Montessori math. Our teachers work hard to ensure each student’s needs are met, and these courses are designed so that a learner can come and go each week as needed. We do not build upon previous content, so it isn’t necessary to attend every week consecutively. Each lesson begins with calendar time, charting the weather, sharing time, and warm-up songs. English days consist of Montessori handwriting with word building mats, Montessori Grammar symbols, Animal Alphabet Phonics, beginning Spanish concepts (like “what day of the week is it?”, or “what is the most common weather type in class?”), and/or story time. Science days incorporate STEM projects or experimental worksheets that will be based on our monthly themes. Projects will be completed every week, and we will work on matching, identifying, and classifying the other weeks. Math days use a variety of techniques between Montessori and Reggio Emilia. This age group will have topics that range from counting to 1000-10,000 all the way to skip counting. We will use several manipulatives over the course of the year which will be posted as necessary over the course of the year. All manipulatives will be provided weekly to the student and parents in the classroom tab by the assigned teacher the Sunday before scheduled classes to give families time to prepare. The monthly themes are: June - Beach Vacation/In the Ocean July - Travel the World/Climate Types August - Dinosaurs/Geology Here is a weekly breakdown: 1. Week of June 5th : In The Ocean/4-Digit Addition/The Noun Family 2. Week of June 12th: In The Ocean/4-Digit Addition/The Noun Family 3. Week of June 19th: In The Ocean/4-Digit Subtraction/Verbs 4. Week of June 26th: In The Ocean/4-Digit Subtraction/Verbs *A full book schedule is included in the Supply list section. **TEACHERS WILL BE READING THESE BOOKS IN CLASS, YOU DO NOT NEED TO PURCHASE THEM.

Parental Guidance
Since these classes do include crafts and science projects, there are potential hazards for young learners. Example: using scissors in class. It may be necessary for a parent to supervise cutting, pasting, or other hands-on activities.

✨COURSES WE OFFER
We specialize in interactive, exciting online learning for primary school-aged children. We focus on ages 3-12, and we teach a full year curriculum with educational techniques and resources inspired by Montessori and Reggio Emilia from preschool to second grade. The ones we have had the privilege to work with so far are all homeschoolers, who primarily live in the USA.
Our star classes include English Language Arts, Science, and Math. These classes are modeled with Montessori techniques that have been developed and tested on hundreds of students over the past year.
We hope to see you in class soon!
