Description
Class Experience
Students will be able to spell short vowel words containing beginning consonant blends and digraphs. They will differentiate between fiction and non-fiction texts, identify story characters and setting, order of events, locate information in text, and determine the truth or falsehood of statements based on their reading and understanding of the texts.
Homework assignments are sure to delight as students will be using refrigerator magnets, clay, flour, crayons, markers, and more to practice spelling their words! Other homework assignments will provide opportunities to practice identifying rhyming words and bonus words with the same beginning blend patterns.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
3 hours 20 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
We will be using "Barnaby Learns to Spell" Book 3 and "First Grade Reading and Comprehension Skills" by Candice Bowes, M. Ed. These texts are available on Amazon.com at the links given below.
