First Grade Social Studies (K-2) | FLEX

Join Miss Mackenzie in learning Social Studies curriculum while also having fun! Learners will learn various Social Studies standards through interactive videos, Nearpod modules, and activities. All of the topics covered in these courses are based off of various state standards for first grade social studies. Multiple topics covered in this class are based on Social Studies in the US. I recognize that many Outschool learners are from all over the world, so they may not be familiar with all topics. This flex class will be great for an advanced kindergartener, current first grader, or second grader that could use some review! Each week will cover different standards:
o History
Week 1: Past Community Life
Week 2: Good Citizenship
Week 3: Timelines
o Economics
Week 4: Goods, services, and jobs
Week 5: Producers & consumers
Week 6: Supply & Demand
Week 7: Wants and Needs
Week 8: Spending and Saving
o Civics & Government
Week 9: Foundations and Functions of Government

--Course Layout--
There will be no live meetings in this course. Videos will be provided weekly for nine weeks that will include that week's information along with a Nearpod module. The Nearpod modules will include activities for learners to complete. I will also assign a related drawing activity at the end of each lesson. Learners can post their completed drawing activity in the Outschool classroom, so that learners can view each other's drawings and comment on them. Each week's material should take learners anywhere from 20-45 minutes to complete.

--Weekly Schedule--
Pre-recorded videos and modules will be posted weekly on Mondays in the classroom page. I will also post the discussion question and/or drawing activity on Mondays. My pre-recorded videos will be in 3-4 parts so that learners can easily navigate through them at their own pace. 

--Learner and Teacher Interaction-- 
I will provide the videos and Nearpod modules each week, so learners can complete them at their own pace. Learners also will post their drawing activities in the Outschool classroom after each lesson. Learners will be able to view each other's drawing activities and comment on them. I will also post a discussion question or activity via Nearpod. 

I want all of my learners to feel safe and also have fun in my classes. I believe learners learn best and retain the most information when they are having fun. Learners and parents can message me any questions or concerns they have at any point. I try my best to respond to all messages within 24 hours.
