Playing sight word bingo is a great way to help a child build their sight word vocabulary. I will guide learners as we say the word, spell the word and use the word in a sentence. This one time class focuses on the first grade Dolch Sight Words list. Early readers benefit from lots of practice and playing sight word bingo helps with recognition of these important words. This interactive game provides children the opportunity to be active learners, while practicing new skills. Prior to class, I will send each student their unique Fortnite bingo cards. These should be printed out and brought to class. We will spend ten minutes practicing the words. The students will hear the teacher say the word, spell the word and use it in a sentence. They will also say and spell the words. If they feel comfortable, each student will also have the opportunity to use some of the words in a sentence. Then we will play a fun game of Fortnite Sight Word Bingo! The teacher will call out a sight word and the students will check to see if the word they see and hear is on their bingo card. If the word is on their card, they will cover that space on their board, with something small, or cross it off with a marker. It's a party so if you have a favorite Fortnite character, feel free to bring it to class.
Learning Goals
Students will practice recognition of the first grade words from the Dolch Sight Words list by participating in an entertaing and educational game of sight word bingo.
