📋CLASS SCHEDULE:

MONDAY-LITERACY ACTIVITY/ STORY RELATED TO THEME- We will practice
literacy concepts using first and second grade leveled books, both fiction and non-fiction that are related to each week's theme. Concepts such as grammar, phonics, comprehension, fluency, and writing will be practiced using handouts and discussion. We will likely read portions of the book throughout the week depending on its length. *Books will be seen on my screen for students to follow along with.
TUESDAY- MATH-Concepts such as measurement, graphing, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, comparison, and 3-4 digit numbers will be taught and related to each week's theme.
WEDNESDAY- CRAFT- A handout will be used and we will work together to make a paper craft. Students will work on fine motor practice and following multiple step directions.
THURSDAY- EXPERIMENT/EXTRA ACTIVITY Students will watch a themed based experiment they can try later with parent help/supervision. We will also do additional activities that enhance the theme such as puzzles, games, color by number, etc.
FRIDAY- SHARE TIME/SNACK TIME -Students can bring an object to share and they will practice speaking and listening skills (OBJECTS RELATED TO THE THEME ARE ENCOURAGED!) We will also prepare a snack together learning how to follow step by step directions.
*** Every day except Thursday, we will continue reading the weekly book that is chosen and discuss.

*Each of these areas provides a set routine for the students and once they are in class for a short period, they will begin to get the hang of it! This provides stability and children thrive in routines, just like adults do!

👩‍🏫EXPERIENCE/PHILOSOPHY
I have loads of experience teaching this age group! It is my passion and I believe it is crucial that we prepare children for an amazing and bright future!!!
-I have a Bachelors Degree in Music Education and have BOTH music and elementary education certificates!
-I have taught in the classroom and online for many years
-I have had my OWN child care center in my home working with young children
-I have experience creating a curriculum on my own that fits the needs of this age group
-I have excellent class management skills and pride myself in my ability to provide engaging, creative, fun lessons!
-I have a special needs child and have found ways to adapt to him and other children's needs.
-I have taught ESL students online and in the classroom and can continue to help them with their English speaking abilities.
-I pride myself in my ability to reach students individually at their level! Each child needs something different and I don't believe in putting children in a "box."

🎒SUPPLIES:
-Handouts for the week- Please print these and have them ready for class! They will be provided in the classroom on Sunday each week.

-Have on hand- pencil, paper, scissors, crayons, markers, and glue.

***ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES will also be posted Sunday with the handouts. *The science materials are optional if you'd like to have your child participate along side me and will be indicated as such. Snack supplies and sometimes additional art supplies may be necessary and will be listed when necessary for that particular week. IF THERE ARE ANY SUPPLIES YOU DON'T HAVE, THERE ARE WAYS TO ADAPT AND MAKE IT WORK. I PROVIDE THIS LIST AS I BELIEVE STUDENTS WILL GET MORE OUT OF THE CLASS IF THEY HAVE THESE SUPPLIES, BUT EITHER WAY, THEY WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME IN CLASS!

* I have also taught in the public schools for 9 years. In pre-k all the way to high school classrooms.

Later on, I supervised swim instructors for 5 years. Additionally,  I have experience working as a day camp counselor in which I worked for 5 years with children ages 3-12.

TYPES OF CLASSES
In the music classes, students will learn beginning music skills such as singing, instrument playing, movement, rhythm, pitch and listening. I will use a variety of tools such as instruments, puppets, and themed based props in order to keep the learners engaged.

For the themed based classes, I plan to take a cross curricular approach to learning based around one theme at a time. Students will learn pre- reading skills, STEM , art, music and motor skills. Some examples of themes include robots, the farm, and transportation.

In circle time classes, we will focus on the basic kindergarten ready skills such as calendar time, shapes, colors, letters and their sounds, numbers as well as show and tell. Show and tell teaches great communication skills such as asking and answering questions.

In holiday themed classes, we will explore different holidays. Students will learn their traditions through songs, crafts and special activities.

ME AS A TEACHER
I've been working with children since I was a teenager! I believe I was born for it! I have great passion working with children and to be honest, I've learned just as much from them as they have from me! I teach using themes and objectives for each lesson, taking a cross-curricular approach to learning. This means connecting the subject areas. I also believe in using a variety of visual, auditory and kinetic learning styles as we all learn in different ways. This keeps the students engaged and having fun while learning!
