US Grade 1
Beginner Level
This fun and exciting course will teach through many learning different modalities. PowerPoints will be used to teach blends, and we will do many hands on activities such as flip books. Literacy topics will be taught through fiction and nonfiction text. I adjust the pace od the class to fit the learners in a small group.
Learning Goals
This course is designed to improve and review skills for first grade, such as character, setting and punctuation marks using fiction and nonfiction text.

How to Make an Apple Pie
Introduce the word
ingredients with the picture card. Discuss the word, meaning, and what is happening in the image. Have students brainstorm different ingredients they would need for apple pie.Using the chart, students add nouns by drawing pictures or writing.

Lesson 2:
Apples
Flap-book: Students fold on the black line and cut on the dotted lines. This will create three flaps. Students have 12 picture/word cards. They will sort the nouns by types: person, place, thing.

Lesson 3:
Honey, Honey Loin bu Jan Brett
Review nouns from last week. This week we are going to continue working with nouns. We are going to practice finding and writing nouns in sentences.

Lesson 4:
African Animals
Singular Nouns in Sentences Hunt: Place the 9 sentences around the room or give a set to each table. Students will read the sentence. They will write the noun from the sentence. Then they will write whether that noun names a person, place, or thing.

I have 26 years of teaching experience and two master’s degrees plus 30. I am certified in elementary education, early childhood education, special education, learning disabilities and Primary Montessori. I have the literacy endorsement and I have also been the Literacy Teacher of the Year and Teacher of the Year. I am trained in Project Read and Ortan- Gillingham.
