US Grade 1
The first time your student enrolls in this course, we will spend a little bit of time getting to know each other and feeling comfortable. Then we will go through books at a couple of levels of difficulty to determine your child's current reading level so we can start from there. We will read together with whatever time remains. After that, we will read together for 20 minutes every time we meet. We will read from books of increasing difficulty so that your child's skills continually grow and improve. If your child is struggling on any particular book, we will pause and practice the skills and words in that book until your child has mastered them and is ready to move on. We will start with reading books that challenge your child, but aren't so hard that your student gets frustrated or discouraged. I have books at all levels, starting with single-syllabic, phonetic books and moving up to AR level 3.0. If your child needs to start from the beginning, that's just great! That's why we're here. We will start with "Bob Books" sets 1-4 before moving on to regular books of reading levels 0.4-3.0. Rewards system: Every time your child successfully passes off a book, they will get to put a sticker in their digital sticker book. Every time they complete a page in their sticker book (by earning 7 stickers), they will earn a brain break. Brain breaks consist of 1-2 minute sing/dance videos from Go Noodle, Big Block Singsong, and similar YouTubers. Once your child has earned 4 brain breaks, you will be sent an Outschool coupon. Review: -1:1 reading time -at your child's level -progressing difficulty -work together through challenging words -earn fun rewards Examples of books: Biscuit Visits the Big City I like Bugs Where Animals Live Cat at Bat Where Do Frogs Come From? The Gym Day Winner Mouse Loves Fall You Can Make a Friend, Pout-Pout Fish! Thomas and the School Trip Frozen: Anna's Best Friends Thomas & Friends: The Lost Ship Ten Apples Up On Top! Axel The Truck: Speed Track
Learning Goals
Students will improve their reading level, comprehension, vocabulary, and confidence.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
I haven't provided a comprehensive list of books as I am constantly in the process of acquiring new and better books to make sure your child has enough reading material to build their skills at every level and is also entertained and learns to enjoy reading. Therefore, I will make sure that I vet any new books that I add to my collection by reading them first to make sure that they don't include graphic or gory illustrations and that the content doesn't promote bullying or discrimination.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I have worked as a reading aide and kindergarten instructional assistant for 3 years. As such, I was in charge of reading with students, assessing their reading level, and helping them move steadily through the curriculum. I have helped over 100 children learn to read.
