This class is designed for students who are going into first grade. It is meant as a kindergarten review to help keep the material fresh in the students’ minds. There may also be brief introductions to first grade material depending on the class. Students will practice various kindergarten math, phonics, and reading skills through use of games, songs, stories, and activities. Skills practiced will include: identifying letters and letter sounds, counting by 1s and 10s, identifying 2-D and 3-D shapes, reading sight words, and identifying numbers. The following is a flexible guide for how class will be structured: 1. Greeting, Calendar, Welcome Message (3-5 minutes) 2. Phonics/Reading Skill Practice (5-7 minutes) 3. Math Skill Practice (5-7 minutes) 4. Sight Word Practice (3-5 minutes) 5. Good bye (1 minute) Topics covered will be as follows: June 29: letters/sounds, discuss/count syllables, number focus 1, 2D shapes, sight word game July 1: rhyming, syllables, number focus 2, 3D shapes, sight word game July 6: "Bossy E," sort short/long vowel words, number focus 3, addition within 5, sight words game July 8: beginning sounds, rhyming, number focus 4, addition within 5, sight words game July 13: rhyming, short/long vowel words, number focus 5, compare groups of numbers, sight word game July 15: CVC words, beginning/middle/ending sounds, number focus 6, counting by 10s, sight word game July 20: capitalization of names, beginning/middle/ending sounds, number focus 7, writing numbers to 20, sight word game July 22: changing first sounds of words, number focus 8, numbers 11-15, sight word game July 27: capitalization/punctuation in sentences, number focus 9, 3-D shapes, sight word game July 29: long/short vowel sounds, 3-D shapes, sight word game August 3: CVC words, ten-frame practice, sight word game August 5: sentence writing, number compariosn, sight word game It is expected that students will have a prior knowledge of letter sounds and counting. This is an ongoing class, so students can take as many or as few of the classes as desired.

Hello! Welcome to Outschool! My name is Teacher Cassandra. I teach Language, Preschool, crafts, Math, and story times. I am a certified teacher with a Masters Degree in Elementary Education. I also am certified in Foundational and Advanced TESOL. I was a teacher in a school for 8 years and I have been a teacher on-line for 3 years. I also homeschool. I love to teach and I love making learning fun for my students! I especially enjoy teaching topics that students have expressed an interest in. I try to incorporate hands-on learning as much as possible through a student-centered approach. My goal in my classes is to have my students play an active role in their learning. I have been married to my husband for 11 years. We have a 7-year-old daughter, a 3-year-old daughter, a 1-year-old son, a dog, and a rabbit! I love to teach! I also enjoy doing crafts, baking, and reading. I also enjoy fun with family and friends. I look forward to seeing you in my classroom!
