This course (part 1 and part 2) covers all of the essential skills for first-grade students. Utilizing the UFLI Foundations Curriculum, learners will receive systematic, explicit, hands-on, and engaging phonics instruction. This unique curriculum features interleaved practice of skills, so learners will continuously be practicing previously learned skills while also be introduced to new skills. This unique, small group class is the perfect setting for learners to be able to participate and feel connected to the other learners in the class, while making amazing growth in their phonics skills. The course syllabus outlines all of the phonics skills we will be covering. Each lesson will span two class sessions and will include the following: -concept introduction/review -phonemic awareness -visual and auditory practice -blending practice -word work -reading -spelling -sentence writing -decodable text Two lessons will be taught per week, each lesson spanning two days, and each Friday we will review the concepts learned through fun activities. We will also do a quick progress monitoring assessment each week. At the end of this course, learners will be able to read, spell, and write with confidence!
