Hi, families! I am so excited to have your learner in my classroom. In this academic-based ongoing morning meeting, your child will feel like they are in a traditional classroom setting. This is the same morning meeting I used with my 1st grade class. Learners should be first graders, or working on first grade standards. Because this class is ongoing, you can enroll at any time. The letter of the day, number of the day, and word of the day change every week, so attendance at the previous week’s class is not necessary; it is fine if you jump into the course at any time. My morning meeting includes: -question of the day -number of the day -word of the day -seasons -months of the year -calendar -weather and temperature -bar graph -skip counting by 2’s (2-50) -skip counting by 5’s (5-100) -skip counting by 10’s (10-100) -3D shape of the week -patterns (AB patterns, ABB patterns, or ABC patterns) -telling time to the hour -fix the sentence -quarter identification Week of: June :Number 140/ hemisphere/ letter L June : June : FORMAT: 1)I will use Google Slides (similar to Power Point or Canva) during this class. WHY SKIP COUNTING?: 1)Skip counting is a big part of first grade! Kids should leave first grade and enter second grade knowing how to skip count by 2’s and 5’s and 10’s. Skip counting helps children with number sense, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, counting money, and telling time... to name a few! TIMING: 1)I try to end class as close to the posted time as possible, but due to the varying pace of learners in every class, it is possible the class will end a few minutes early or late. 2)Classes begin at the scheduled time even if all learners are not in the classroom. MUTE/UNMUTE: 1)Students will remain muted the entire class to avoid background noises and provide each learner with the best possible experience. Students will have the opportunity to share and speak, but will otherwise remain muted. NO SHOWS: 1)If no learners show up, I will wait 10 minutes before ending class and exiting the classroom.
