Class Experience

Let’s sharpen our first grade math skills! Perfect for advanced kindergarten, sharpen first grade math skills, and filling the gaps for second grade students.

In this ongoing course, students will review and practice 1st grade math concepts according to the first grade common core standards. Each week we will focus on a new topic to sharpen math skills from every area of the first grade math standards.

This class is suitable for kindergarten students who have mastered the kindergarten curriculum, first grade students who need to sharpen their skills, or second grade students who are behind grade level.

Each class will have an ice breaker, mini lesson, guided practice, and chances for students to independently practice the math skill to check for mastery. Extra math practice relating to the classes skill will be given to students at the end of class for extra practice if wanted.

Lessons do not build off one another, they each focus on a different skill. This means that your student can join at any time and not be behind or lost.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome! My name is Courtney. It's nice to meet you!

I am in my third year of teaching. I am licensed in Elementary Education (K-6), Special Education: General Curriculum (K-12), and Special Education: Adapted Curriculum (K-12). My first two years of teacher have been in first grade. However, I will be starting my third year in a special education classroom.

I will be teaching a variety of phonics, reading, writing, and math classes for kindergarten-second grade students.

- Phonics classes include sight words, CVC words, blends, digraphs, and blending and segmenting words.
- Reading classes will include book discussions and comprehension. Non-fiction topics will also be included.
-Writing will include how to books, opinion writing, persuasive writing, and poems.
- Math classes will include all of the kindergarten and first grade math standards ranging from counting to telling time.

I think learning should be fun and exciting for all students. Students will enter a welcoming environment were they will be pushed to their full potential.

Fun Fact: I have a twin sister!
