First Grade Math and Phonics Circle Time

This class will focus on crucial skills taught throughout first grade. To begin each class, I will ask a question and have sharing time for the students. This is to get the students more comfortable with each other and participating in the rest of the class activities. Then, we will be practicing sight words, letters, and how to blend letter sounds to form words. We will then use these skills to practice reading sentences. This will begin with blending short vowel words in August/September and progress to long vowels, digraphs, and diphthongs as the year goes on. Students will also learn strategies for counting, adding, and subtracting. Students are encouraged to bring their own whiteboards and dry-erase markers to participate throughout the class.

-Practice adding and/or subtracting
-Goodbye


Students should know their letters and letter sounds to get the most out of this class, but I will scaffold to the level of the learners participating.
