In this ongoing course, we will cover first grade phonics and practice reading/writing sentences using our newly learned phonics sounds and letters. Hi, I am Teacher Cal! Welcome to First Grade Letter Formation, Phonics and Reading! I am so happy you're here. In this ongoing course, we will cover first grade phonics and practice reading/writing sentences using our newly learned phonics sounds and letters. You can choose to drop in one week at a time or attend ongoing. Each class will follow the same format, 1x a week: Topics Covered/Taught: - Correct letter formation - Letter names and letter sounds. - Learning the pure phoneme sounds. - Produce single syllable words by segmenting and blending sounds. - Identify the beginning, middle, and ending sound of a single syllable word. - Students understand that every syllable must contain a vowel. - Learning CVC words. - How to write a dictated sentence. - Segmenting and blending pure sounds to form a word. - Reading short sentences. - Learning sight words. Week 1: Learning letter names and letter sounds. Recognising pure sounds and correct letter formation. We will focus on 8 pure sounds: a, c, i, t, p, s, m, f. Learning 2 sight words. Learning CVC words. Week 2: Learning letter names and letter sounds. Recognising pure sounds and correct letter formation. We will focus on 8 pure sounds: o, l, b, d, h, n, g, l, v. Learning 3 sight words. Learning CVC words. Week 3: Learning letter names and letter sounds. Recognising pure sounds and correct letter formation. We will focus on 10 pure sounds: j, x, w, u, z, r, e, qu, z, k. Learning CVC words. Week 4: Segmenting and blending sounds to make words by identifying the beginning, middle and ending sound. Learning CVC words. Reading short sentences. Writing a short dictated sentence. Using the pure sounds we have learnt to segment and blend to form words. Using visuals to build these words. Using the correct letter formation for each pure sound as we will also write down the words. Learning how to write a dictated sentence. Writing dictated sentences by segmenting and blending. Learning the first rules of sentence construction. Consolidation of our learning.
