US Grade 1
Beginner Level
This course is divided up into core subjects, such as math, language arts, science, and social studies. We will also have a writer's workshop, and literacy. Each month general topics will remain the same. Each week is different and provides new materials and ways to practice for students. Our class will be a 5 day workweek. During the class-time, we will work together through workbooks, visuals, manipulatives in math, videos, discussion, stories. Each child will be asked to participate in the lessons, and will each have individual attention from the teacher. Every class will start out with Morning Meeting/Calendar time~ and Journal Prompts In first grade math, we will be working through the student workbook "First Grade Math With Confidence". It covers Numbers to 100, shapes, addition facts to 20, subtraction facts in the teens, length, time and money, mental math and 2 digit numbers. If your child has advanced past this material, I am happy to move on to 2nd grade materials for your child individually. In first grade science, we will be working through Sun, Moon, and Stars, Sound and Vibration, Organisms, Butterflies, and the Oceans. We will also include STEM projects as we can fit them in. In Language Arts, students will learn to read independently, parts of speech, grammar rules, reading comprehension, telling passages in order, facts and opinions, syllables, plurals and more. In Social Studies, students will learn Responsible Citizenship, Families Long ago and Today, Holidays around the World, Community Economics and Geography. They will write everyday in their journal through prompts, which will teach them about fact and opinion, Who, What, When, Why, Where, and How, This or that, as well as writing fundamentals. As needed, if I see the students becoming restless or fidgety, I will have a brain break to help them work off some energy. There will be breaks additionally for bathroom, and a snack if needed. Scheduling: We have 90 minutes of class each day, 5 days per week. Each day the students will get a 10 minute break as needed for bathroom, snack, movement or all 3. They also have the option of socializing with their classmates during that time as well! :) I will have a set amount of assignments and lessons planned for the week, and I will be trying a few different ways to teach the lesson, based on how the students respond. Ideally, I would like to focus on ELA and Math every day, alternating Science, and Social Studies, and remaining time for art on Friday. Example: Monday-Thursday Math- 30 minutes- \ break 10\ ELA-30\ Social Studies Or Science 20 min Friday Hands on activity art, stem, or themed work.

Hello! My name is Dina, and I am excited to have you here! First and foremost, I am a mama to 4 kidlings. Most are grown and 3 have left the nest, but I have 1 left at home. I love teaching kids. I love the "aha" on a child's face when they understand a new concept. I love the personalities that I come across. I have been teaching English online for several years to children ages 3-16. I have also been a preschool teacher for over 20 years.
If I could have had another career, I might have been a librarian, because I LOVE reading! Reading is one of my favorite hobbies!
Some of my other hobbies include hiking, gardening, my pets, and cooking!
I believe in finding the spark of curiosity that lives in every child, and encouraging it to grow. I hope to inspire my students through engagement with reading, learning, cooking, a positive mindset, play and laughter.
When I am not teaching classes I am a wedding officiant! I get to marry people~ which is so rewarding and special. :)
I have an ECE degree, a Bachelor of Arts, and a Masters in Business, and a Doctorate in Divinity. I also have my TESOL and TOEFL certifications.
I hope you will be inspired to have a class with me, and I am hopeful your child will have as much fun with me, as I plan to with them!
See you in the classroom!
Sincerely, Dina
