2 in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. Student should practice at home for a minimum of 10 minutes, 5 times a week. As they progress, they can add more time but in the beginning it is important to set a consistent schedule. Students need to work on the pages assigned for that week and as more pages are added, to review those also.Assessment
Students will be assessed individually during the class.Class Experience
This class is for the beginner on flute. The text used will be Flute 101, which is a unique and tested method for developing beginners. The unique part of this book is that early lessons have the student playing the instrument with their right hand on the barrel, giving the student greater control and helping them play the whole flute easily. We will cover lessons 1 - 3. In the first lesson, students will work on the headjoint only and breathing techniques. Lesson 1 teaches B, A, and G along with a review of the headjoint. Lesson 2 works on C and duets with all notes studied so far. Lesson 3 works on second octave C, B, A, and G. Teaching style uses powerpoint and teacher examples - teacher will play and then have students play individually and together. Students will play the duets and the teacher will play the teacher part. The class is structured as a four week class with thirty minutes each week. Students will need a flute, music stand and Flute 101 (text).
Learning Goals
Students will learn the beginning lessons of playing the flute - playing and breathing through the headjoint, learning basic left hand notes and learning the same notes up an octave.
