Class Experience

Students will gain confidence with public speaking by sharing something they're excited about- books!
Students who choose to read aloud will improve fluency through practice.

Some benefits of listening to others read aloud:
Improves comprehension
Increases reading accuracy, speed, and fluency
Expands vocabulary
Teaches pronunciation improves comprehension.
Master's Degree in Teaching
More than 15 years experience teaching children ages 5-14
Years of experience leading book clubs for children
Training and experience implementing research-driven social emotional best practices, specifically Responsive Classroom and Zones of Regulation, and trauma informed education practices.
Read your chapter silently. Then, read it aloud. This is optional, but recommended because it helps you with timing and fluency.
Bring a book to share each week!
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students will be choosing the books they share, so I am unable to prescreen books to provide book reviews or trigger warnings. However, all books are expected to be published for 9-14 year olds.
After each class I will post the title, author, and common sense media review (if available) of each book.
