Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 2
Join me in this first and second grade science adventure! This is quarter one of the full curricula, however, *students do not need to take these quarters in order*. Every lesson is interactive and includes a hands-on activity or experiment to help students visualize the lesson. Lessons are built with the Next Generation Science Standards in mind. I encourage students to share stories, experiences, and any artifacts that they may have for the weekly topic! Sometimes students ask questions and we will explore to find the answer together.

Each week I will post optional worksheets and extra activities in the classroom for students to complete, if they choose. This is helpful for students who enjoy the topics and would like to continue being a scientist throughout the week!
I will be available to answer any questions that students post in the classroom within 24 hours. I also encourage students/parents to post pictures of their work or experiments in the classroom. This is a fun way for students to connect as well!

The weekly topics are below:

Week 1 - Light and sound waves - Let's make music AND shadow puppets!
Week 2 - Animal adaptations: Part 1 Eyes - Animal vision
Week 3 - Animal adaptations: Part 2 Beaks - Beaks of many kinds
Week 4 - Parents and their offspring - Can you find the right baby animal?
Week 5 - Plant adaptations - Plant creativity!
Week 6 - The earth, the moon, and the sun: Part 1 Focus on the Sun - Let's shape the planets!
Week 7 - The earth, the moon, and the sun: Part 2 Focus on the Moon - YUMMMY moon phases
Week 8 - Engineering design project and experiment - Bursting bubbles

Hi! My name is Kristi and I am so happy you ventured over to my science learning lab!

My goal is for students to have fun, maybe get messy, and gain a love for science! My teaching style is interactive and hands-on as I try to bring science to life. My classes work well for the kinesthetic learner.
You will find that most of my classes have a hands-on component to complement the learning experience and my presentations are very visual.

I do my very best to keep prices lower than average as I understand how quickly classes add up for parents. Keeping the prices lower also helps parents as there are material lists for experiments and activities. However, almost every class that I have has a coupon! Please reach out if you need assistance.

When I am not teaching I love to spend time with my daughter outside, gardening, raising chicks, and learning new skills. My goal is to combine some of my hobbies while teaching.

I have been teaching environmental science to students in pre-k through 12th grade for over 12 years. I have taught in various settings including outdoors, in classrooms, and online. I currently run my own business developing and delivering science lessons and custom curriculums to students in school settings, early learning centers, scouts, libraries, and more! I received my B.A.s in Environmental Science and Sociology in 2016 and my M.S. in Resilient and Sustainable Communities in 2019.
