Class Experience
Fluency is the ability to read a text accurately, quickly, and with expression. Reading fluency is important because it provides a bridge between word recognition and comprehension. Fluency is also very important for motivation! In this flex tutoring session, there will be a short video (8-15 minutes). I will read a passage to the students slowly and without expression. Next, I will read the passage with fluency and expression. I will read it 2 more times with fluency and expression. Last,...
Students will grow in their reading fluency by practicing reading and comprehension.
I am a certified reading teacher in the state of NC. I have over 13 years of experience and a Master of Education with a Concentration in Reading. I have taught online, and in the public and charter school systems.
Students will answer the comprehension questions.
A 2-page handout will be provided each week. It will be shown on the screen during the reading if you do not have a printer.
Students will record their words per minute. Parents may need to assist learners with setting up a timer for 1 minute.
No live meetings, and maybe some time outside of class.
