30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this one-time class, we will discuss fire prevention and fire safety rules such as: Fire Prevention - if we see matches or a lighter, we do not touch them and tell a grownup - we make sure we have smoke detectors and test them each month - we will map a plan of how we could get out of our house and practice this plan as a family! - close your door before you go to sleep (close before you doze!) Fire Safety - we will always remember to Stop, Drop, and Roll! - if there is smoke, we crawl along the ground - we will not touch a doorknob, but feel close to it to feel if it is hot - we open a window and wave an item out the window - we meet at our meeting place and call 911 - we do not go back in a building/area on fire to retrieve anything -Firefighters will help us do that! =) - we know firefighters may wear scary looking helmets and wear big looking tanks, but they are the good guys and will help rescue us! =) We will discuss these topics in a Powerpoint, stopping and discussing each slide for mastery. We will also act out fire safety tips such as Stop, Drop, and Roll, feeling around a door/doorknob, crawling to the floor, waving an item out a window, and calling 9-1-1. A worksheet will be provided with a number pad for students to practice dialing 9-1-1 on.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Nicole Marder. =) I grew up with a passion for teaching. My mom was a Kindergarten teacher for thirty three years and I followed in her footsteps and became a Kindergarten teacher as well! I subbed for grades K-12 for three years while in college and taught for four years before I had my son. I took an extended maternity leave, but I have continued my educational journey and tutored students from Kindergarten through Sixth Grade.
While subbing, teaching in a public school, and tutoring; I found whole body movement, singing, using silly phrases, and drawing were essential to each student's success. There is no identical learner and it is so important to meet each student's learning needs to optimize learning!!
I love having fun and being silly while teaching! Students need to have a class setting where it is fun and where they don't have to worry about getting an answer wrong! I tell my son on a daily basis that mistakes are vital to learning!
It would be a privilege to teach your child and I look forward to meeting your child in my class soon! =)
