Elf on Shelf & Winter Paintings: Fine Art With Craft for Holidays (Pre-K-2Nd Gr)

During the class, children will follow the Elf on the Shelf on his adventure to the North Pole. On the way they will explore paintings created by Shishkin, Monet, Pissarro, and Avercamp. Kids will discuss each winter scene that the Elf on the Shelf is passing on his journey, notice how artists depict snow in different setting, and play "I spy..." game using one of the landscapes. Children will: • learn (or review) what artists do • learn (or review) what types of paintings is called "landscape" • practice their observation skills • exercise their fine motor skills while working on an art project
Materials for Craft: 1. Cardboard (cut out from cereal box) 2. Short twigs that look like little trees (2-3 of them) 3. Short pine branches cut about 6 inches (2-3 of them) 4. White modeling clay or play dough 5. Aluminum foil (slightly bigger than cardboard) 6. Cotton balls 7. Scissors 8. Glue 9. Scotch tape
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
For the craft portion of the class, parental guidance is required for younger students (ages 4-5) for the use of scissors and other materials. Parental guidance is recommended for older students (ages 6-8). Please note that as per Outschool policy, parents should remain off camera Thank you.
