30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this single meeting class for early elementary students, we will meet the world-famous artist Pablo Picasso and learn about his life. Students will examine his art, and practice visual intake and verbal expression through describing the art and their thoughts about it. Students will learn about Cubism. We will complete this lesson by creating our own works of sculpture using found objects inspired by Picasso's sculptures. The sculpture project will be begun in class and finished after class if students would like additional time to complete it. Learners are invited to post their finished work in the classroom to share with one another. This course is geared to help students learn about art styles, art techniques, and art history while simultaneously increasing their language competency to support group discussion and evaluation of thoughts and ideas.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Pablo Picasso created around 50,000 works of art in his lifetime. Some of his work does deal with the subjects of war, violence, social hardships and mental health. In this class, because the learners are young, I have only chosen images that focus on the art styles cubism and found art sculpture. I have not included any images containing nudity or any images depicting war, violence, social hardships or mental health. Parents can continue to study famous works by this artist, such a Guernica (1937) as a supplement to this class as they see fit.
