What's included
12 live meetings
6 in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. Learners will receive optional handouts and planning pages to help them practice skills introduced in class. They will also need to work on their speeches outside of class, especially as we get closer to their final presentation. This may include brainstorming ideas, writing or revising their speech, and practicing delivery. Homework is flexible and designed to support each learner’s confidence and progress.Grading
This class is not graded, but learners will receive verbal feedback on their final speech presentation. Feedback will focus on what they did well and offer encouragement and suggestions for continued growth. The goal is to build confidence and celebrate each learner’s progress as a speaker.Class Experience
In this 6-week course, learners will build confidence and communication skills by developing and delivering their own speech in English. We’ll explore the fundamentals of public speaking, including volume, pacing, tone, pronunciation, and body language, while also learning how to brainstorm, structure, and write a speech. Topics Covered: Managing nervousness and building confidence Voice techniques: volume, speed, tone, pronunciation Storytelling and organizing ideas clearly Brainstorming strong speech topics Writing and rehearsing a structured speech Thinking on your feet with fun speaking games Giving and receiving positive feedback Final project: a 3-minute speech presented to the class Course Structure This course meets twice a week for 6 weeks (12 total sessions). Each class includes: A warm-up speaking activity A mini-lesson introducing a public speaking skill Guided practice or speech writing Time to share and receive encouragement Learners will gradually build up to presenting a final 3-minute speech on a topic of their choice. My teaching style is warm, supportive, and interactive. I want every learner to feel safe, seen, and celebrated. I use a mix of games, modeling, open discussion, and creative exercises to keep learners engaged and comfortable. I believe in progress over perfection—and that kids do their best when they’re having fun and encouraged every step of the way. This is not a lecture-style course. Learners will: Speak in every class (through games, exercises, or presentations) Participate in class discussions and brainstorming Receive individual feedback and encouragement Have time to share written work and practice speeches aloud Work collaboratively in a small, supportive group setting
