In this session, students will answer prompts related to the Common Application Essay, learn how to structure and deliver an engaging story, and add eye-catching details to their essay drafts.

Class experience

Students will be able to choose one or two possible topics from a list of college application essay prompts by drawing on their own personal experiences.
Students will be able to enhance their essay drafts with imagery and eye-catching details to help their essay stand out from a pool of applicants.
I have been a professional English teacher in Massachusetts for the past 8 years, and I have helped over 100 students develop and revise their college application essays as part of my Junior and Senior year curriculum. I have also provided private tutoring services for students looking to improve their college application essays with one-on-one support for the drafting and revision process. Students I have worked with have been admitted to Harvard, Boston University, Boston College, and other top tier schools.
A pen/pencil and lined paper or the ability to type in a separate document are recommended for brainstorming and drafting essays. Students have the option of scheduling future follow-up sessions with me to help with revisions to their draft.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I base my instruction off of the Common Application Essay prompts: https://www.commonapp.org/apply/essay-prompts.
All other resources and materials are my own.
