Students will take quick notes on the two formulas we will be using to find the perimeter and area of squares, rectangles and triangles. Students will do a couple of skill based examples using these formulas. They will then apply these formulas to the word problems provided. Students will identify key words in the word problems, identify unnecessary information and the formula that must be used in order to solve each problem. Students will identify key information in a word problem, identify the formula to be used and organize these components in order to solve the problem.
This is a lesson that I have taught both in a public school with a class of 30 students and in private tutoring setting, and I have always been able to identify the misconceptions regarding this lesson. This helps me adjust the lesson to individual needs.
1 file available upon enrollmentPlease have students come to class prepared with a notebook, a pencil and at least two colored pens. Students may print out worksheet attached to be solved during the lesson.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be assessed in the form of questioning throughout the lesson. Students will also demonstrate comprehension through modeling the steps learned.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
