In this one-time class, students become Text Detectives to prove their comprehension. While reading non fiction text passages, they will color-code the text that supports their answers.

In this one-time course, students will become text detectives! Students will find the evidence from the weekly passage to prove their answers. This class uses an active reading strategy – by color-coding our answers – with non-fiction informational text passages. Referring back to the text in order to support an answer is an important skill for readers to learn. Students will demonstrate the ability to write answers in complete sentences. Students will be able to prove their answers by referring back to the text.
I have a 120hr TESOL certificate and two years of experience teaching ESL learners online for companies such as Palfish, VIPKid, GoGoKid, and Magic Ears in China, and Egg School in South Korea. I have also tutored students in local schools (ie., reading help, homework help, social skills).
Students will be provided with a 3-page PDF to print. They will need a pencil and either colored pencils or crayons for color-coding.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
