Financial Spreadsheets With Google Sheets
Over 5-weeks, learners will learn about business balance sheets, income statements, cash flows and budgets, while practicing using Google Sheets. Using templates, learners will get a hands-on introduction to accounting terms and formulas.

Beginner - Intermediate Level
During this five-week course, students will learn about basic financial statements, including a personal budget and a company's balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow. Students will use Google Sheets on their laptop or computer in-order to create each financial statement during class. 5 lessons//5 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Personal BudgetWe will begin by creating a basic personal budget. I will define "static" and "cell reference" formulas and then we will discuss the benefits of cell reference formulas. We will then use a budget template and practice using and updating the template. We will discuss what the average American spends in a month.Week 2Lesson 2Balance SheetWe will discuss assets, liabilities, and equity. We will discuss the uses of a balance sheet and create a balance sheet using a mock company as an example.Week 3Lesson 3Income StatementWe will create a revenue and expense tracker. We will discuss how this information is used to create a company's income statement. We will practice linking two spread sheets with formulas.Week 4Lesson 4Cash FlowWe will look at an income statement and cash flow and discuss the differences and what each tells us. We will use the cash flow statement to create graphs that show changes over multiple years.Week 5Lesson 5Real ExamplesWe'll review and look at real company's examples of the different types of financial statements.

- Learners will be able to state the purpose of a balance sheet, income statement, cash flow and budget.
- Learners will be able to communicate the reasons financials statements are important for individuals and businesses to create and update.
- Learners will be able to identify examples of assets, liabilities, income/revenue and expenses.
Over the last three years, I have virtually tutored over 1,300 young learners on the Outschool platform. Prior to that, I enjoyed a thirteen-year corporate career, where I used financial statements regularly to make decisions. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bucknell University.

A learner does not need financial or Google Sheet experience for this class. However, they should have basic knowledge of using a computer, such as opening a file and using a mouse.
