Class Experience

In this 5-week flex course, students will learn all about making, spending and saving money. Students will also get the chance to make their own financial goal poster at the end of this course!

This course does not include live meetings. I will provide a video lesson as well as a Nearpod presentation every week and students will complete their assignments at the end of each week and answer a discussion question in the classroom. I will provide a video link and a Nearpod code once enrolled in class. I use Nearpod to make class more interactive and engaging for students.

I understand that young learners have a shorter attention span, therefore I have recorded 7-10 min video lessons for each week and 10-15 min worth of assignments for each week.

The preferred age range for this class is 4-7 years of age. However, this age range is flexible depending on the maturity and knowledge of your student. **I highly recommend you stick to the age range for complete satisfaction :)

The class will be divided into five weeks. The following is a schedule of how the course will look like.

Week 1: What is Money: Bills and Coins
We will talk learn what money is and its value. We will go over the different shapes and sizes of money, and the value of each. I will test what they have learned through fun activities and games and we will take a poll on which activity they enjoyed more.

Week 2: Making Money: Work/Job/Income
We will transition into "how to make money" and what that looks like. We will go over the different ways in which people make money and how they can make money as a kid. We will talk about doing chores, and each student will get the chance to share what kind of chores they do in their home.

Week 3: Making Spending Decisions: Wants vs. Needs
We will learn how to make spending decisions with the money that we have earned. We will go over a scenario where each student will get the chance to make a spending choice. We will learn how important it is to make wise choices when we spend our money. We will then test our knowledge with an interactive activity.

Week 4: Saving Money: Spending, Saving, Sharing
We will talk about saving money and the three reasons for saving money: spending, saving, and sharing! We will go over each one and what it looks like. We will place our new knowledge to the test once more through interactive slides. Each student will take a poll on their favorite ways to save money.

Week 5: Financial Goals: Financial Goal Poster
We will make a poster with our financial goals. Students are encouraged to bring colored construction paper, a store catalog, a pair of scissors, a pencil or marker, and glue to class. We will cut out images from our store catalog of items we are saving money for. In the case that students do not have access to construction paper or a store catalog, a printable handout will be provided and will need to be printed prior to class. Students may also use crayons, markers, or colored pencils to draw their financial goals instead.

Learning Goals

Students will learn the basics of finance: the value of money, how to make money, how to make spending decisions, how to save money, and will get the chance to make a poster with their financial goal.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there! My name is May Dulce but I like to go by Ms. Candy! I have a B.S. in Business Management, 6 years of teaching experience and have a creative way of making learning fun and exciting! I am from Phoenix, Arizona, USA, born and raised!

I have been working on Outschool for many years, teaching finance, Spanish, arts and crafts and much more! Outside of Outschool, I am an engaging and fun substitute teacher for K-12 grade students!

I strongly believe that children learn best in an interactive environment, where they can actively participate during class and share their thoughts and ideas. I always encourage my students to use their imagination if they want to have a little extra fun in class and I do my best to bring academic concepts to life with visual and practical learning experiences.

Outside of teaching, I love to travel, make arts and crafts, watch movies, and bake yummy treats! I am also a mom to an active toddler who bring out the best energy from me!

Can't wait to meet you all in class!
