Class Experience

Shopping is an activity that most people love! Children are impressionable so it is important to recognize and be aware of brands available, as well as to if that is important. Also where people shop becomes more evident to your child. The tween years are ones that advertisers heavily market to because they have many wants and companies know how to trigger their wants. All activities will be completed by the end of the course.

There will be 5 goals for this 2-day course including a final assessment of planning a grocery shopping trip for their family including making a budget and doing research on prices!

Goal #1 - Explore Your Needs and Wants - discuss and learn the differences between the two
Goal #2 - Look Into Why You Want What You Want - Commercials? Peer Pressure? How do we decide what we like?
Goal #3 - Find Out What Makes People Happy About What They Buy
Goal #4 - Learn How to Decide What to Buy - Given a budget and scenario, decide what is needed and wanted. Discuss!
Goal #5 - Make a Plan to Buy Something You Need or Want - plan a grocery trip for the family making a budget and researching prices.

Creating and planning are both very important parts of being a savvy shopper. You cannot spend what you have not earned!

All of these steps align with the Girl Scouts of the USA Staying Fit Badge! You can complete this in class 2 hour course, (minimal additional outside of class time is required) report it to your Girl Scout leader and receive credit towards the badge! (BADGE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS COURSE, but a certificate of completion signed by me is!)

I am a long time Girl Scout, it will always be in my heart. I feel like this is something fun that girls AND boys can do so I will offer it to everyone! If I can give credit to boys for something, I will, and girls for scouts!
