This 4 Lesson Self-Paced class is perfect for aspiring filmmakers and movie editors, as well as artists of all kinds and students who just love movies and want to know how they're made. We'll watch clips from classics like Star Wars and Hitchcock, modern hits like Marvel and Lord of the Rings, and your own clips to learn: -cinematography: shots (close-ups, tracking, etc) and cuts -stylistic effects like the use of shadow in film noir -special effects like CGI and green screens -which movie-magic tricks you can use for your own home-made movies Students are encouraged to create and share home-made movies during the class, using the concepts we learn! This is a Self-Paced class with no live meetings. Each of the 4 Lessons includes a pre-recorded Lesson Video (plus an Optional Worksheet for comprehension) with accompanying Discussion posts, where students will do activities and engage in a back-and-forth with the teacher. Students are also welcome to message me or arrange Q&A or live "office hours" for additional support. over 4 WeeksLesson 1:
Cinematography: Shots
We'll see close-ups, aerial shots, tracking shots, and more in famous movies. Plus, we'll share examples of each from our favorite movies and/or home movies. 18 mins of video lessons
Lesson 2:
Cinematography, Part II: Cuts
Featuring montage, time lapse, jump cut, and more of your favorite examples. 17 mins of video lessons
Lesson 3:
Stylistic Effects & Practical Special Effects
Stylistic effects includes using shadow, distortion, and transitions. Then, we begin special effects by seeing practical special effects in action: like stop-motion animation and animatronics. 22 mins of video lessons
Lesson 4:
Post-production Special Effects & more Home Movies
We'll end with post-production special effects (green screens, CGI, etc.) and you're welcome to share updates on any home movies you're making! 24 mins of video lessons
