Class Experience

Do you have a cool idea for a short film, but aren't sure what your first step in executing it is? Writing a screenplay can help you cement and clarify your ideas and vision into the movie you want to make.

SPECIAL NOTE: Students will NOT film their movie as a part of this class. They are writing the script in the class which will function as a roadmap if they decide to film it on their own.

Week 1 - We'll go over the basics of screenplay and shooting script formatting, screenwriting programs to use, and discuss which format is best for their movie/idea (stop motion, live action, animation programs, or video games). The second half of the time will be spent with the students sharing their ideas, getting feedback on how to write/shoot various ideas, and/or starting their script.

Week 2 - Students should have half their script written. We will go over their pages and suggestions will be made for any re-writes (content and copy). The second half of the time will be spent with the students sharing their ideas and questions, and rewriting the first half of the script.

Week 3 - Students should have completed writing their script. We will go over the second half of their script and suggestions will be made for any re-writes (content and copy). The second half of the time will be spent with the students sharing their ideas and questions, and rewriting the script.

Week 4 - Students will share (using screen share in Zoom) their rewritten scripts and we will do a table read of the scripts (all students must have working microphones for the table read). After the table reads, the class will give feedback on any additional changes, additions, subtractions they recommend keeping in mind how the student plans on shooting the movie (stop motion, video game, animation programs, or live action).
