Each week we will explore, discuss and analyse a classic film from Hollywood and beyond.
Class experience
In this club, students will get to explore a wide variety of classic cinema, some they will know about and some they will learn about for the first time. Each week we will analyse,discuss and explore a classic movie ranging from 1930s Hollywood through to 1920 German expressionism and Italian neo realism. Students will improve their understanding of a variety of classic films and discuss them with each other, improving their listening and debating skills.
As an experienced Film Studies and English teacher I have run Film Clubs in schools in the UK for many years. I always encourage discussion amongst the learners about each film and its context.
Students will need to watch the films before each club meeting. They will be available to stream online or on DVD.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Although none of the films shown will be above a 12a certificate, parents are advised to view the films beforehand if unsure. There are some tense and violent scenes in Jaws which some learners may find unpsetting.
