Ever wonder how a movie is made? Or maybe your learner has filmed a few shorts and wants to up their game to the next level? This ongoing class covers filmmaking at every budget and every skill level, from a zero-budget first effort to what actually happens on a $3 million dollar Hollywood network TV show behind the scenes. Each week students will be introduced to a new aspect of how to make a show, including: - How to write a script that serves as a blueprint for a film - How documentaries and reality shows are different from TV dramas and feature films - What pre-production is and how to prepare everything needed for the moment the cameras roll - All about the different departments a show might need, including camera, lighting, sound, props, makeup, and more - How to direct and work with actors - Set etiquette, shadowing professionals, and how to be a great production assistant - Proper slating technique and continuity - Problem-solving and how to run a safe and positive set environment - Audio dramas, animation, and other alternatives to live-action filming - Handling and organizing props, costumes, locations, extras, animals, and vehicles - Different kinds of equipment available for low-budget filmmaking and how to use it - Behind the scenes peeks into how a real film set operates - Post-production sound, editing, and color grading - Different software choices for writers, directors, and editors - How to get the finished product seen, such as online distribution outlets and festivals -... and lots more! As this is an ongoing class, each week will not only feature a new topic, but will also roll with what is currently happening in the world of filmmaking, such as new avenues of distribution, how a current show is being made, behind-the-scenes info, and new technologies. There will be occasional special guest lectures from real industry professionals via pre-recorded video clips that will then be discussed by the class. We'll also be discussing learners' current film projects, what they need help with, what they've learned recently, and their progress and successes!
