Figuring Out the Fun in Fractions

Students will be taught all about fractions with each class focusing on a different part of fractions. The first class will go over adding fractions. The second class will go over subtracting fractions. The third class will be making fractions into decimals and percents. The fourth class will be multiplying fractions. The fifth class will be dividing fractions. The sixth class will be simplifying fractions. The seventh class will be mixed review of all skills learned for review. The eighth class will be a final assessment to see how well students know decimals. Each class, we will go over strategies in the first five minutes. The second fifteen minutes of each video session will be leading the learners in solving problems. The next fifteen minutes will be working through some problems together collaboratively. The last ten minutes students will practice a couple of problems which will be discussed so students can explain their thinking. Problems will include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions. By the end of the class they will be able to switch a fraction into a decimal and also into a percent. Students will learn strategies to simplify fractions so they are not intimidating.
