Class Experience
**This class is available to be scheduled at your request! Message with your preferred start date. Flex class lessons are recorded and may be completed on the day(s) of your choosing. *********************************** Looking for a class that will help exercise and improve your drawings skills? In this course, students will follow along with short guided drawing lessons that will help young artists become more fluent and confident when sketching from observation. At the beginning of each week, I'll post five short lessons (10-15 minutes) each featuring a person that we'll sketch together! We'll practice gesture drawing and then refining our contours, using a photo for reference and drawing from observation. Our goal will not be to create perfect drawings every time, but rather to practice creating accurate proportions and placing our lines more confidently. By the end of 20 practice sketches together, we'll be off and running! Our list of figure drawing poses and subjects includes: running, jumping, standing, surfing, sitting, leaning, gymnasts, athletes, adventurers, acrobats....and more! In addition, each week we'll concentrate on a specific skill: Week 1: Gesture drawing-- capturing motion Week 2: Contours & adding mass Week 3: Adding clothing & fabric Week 4: Creating contrast-- blocking in shadows I suggest that students complete one exercise each day, but as this is a flex class, feel free to be flexible! Students may post assignments in the classroom, or send images via Outschool Messenger to receive help or feedback. Personalized written or video feedback will be provided to each student, to help hone their skills and give positive reinforcement. Students will interact with one another through the classroom message board by: - Sharing ideas and found images with one another for independent practice - Sharing tips & tricks they find personally helpful - Posting responses to each others' work* *Clear and kind guidelines for comments and critique will be discussed and upheld throughout the course.
Learning Goals
We'll practice drawing from observation, gesture drawing, creating accurate proportions, and refining our contour and outlines to create realistic drawings of the human figure.

I've taught drawing for over 15 years, first in the traditional classroom, and now online! My specialty is drawing from observation, which I currently also teach in several live classes to students aged 8 and up. My goal is to help students improve their technique so that they feel confident whether following our guided drawing lessons, or working on their own.
