Students will learn the basics of figure drawing, improve drawing skills, gain confidence in their ability to draw and become more comfortable drawing.
I have taught the art of Keith Haring in Pennsylvania public schools since 1996 and have had tremendous interest and excitement about his work from students. I will not be showing, discussing or referencing any of his controversial works. Sometimes when kids learn about an artist and become interested they want to do their own further research and may come across some of his more graphic drawings if they have unchaperoned access to the internet.
5 files available upon enrollmentStudents will need a 12 inch ruler. Several PDF handouts will be provided for students prior to each class. it is recommended that they can view the handouts on a screen or print them out prior so that they can simultaneously view the handout while participating in class. Students will need drawing paper, pencil, eraser, and colored pencils.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The art of Keith Haring will be viewed, discussed and used for inspiration during the second class meeting of this course. Parents should be advised that the images and art examples being used to teach figure drawing are age appropriate, but if a student researches Haring on the internet unchaperoned they may find results that represent some of Haring's more symbolically graphic figure drawings. It is recommended that this be monitored if parents are uncomfortable with this possibility.
