45 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this one-time 45 minute class, students will learn everything they need to know about similes and metaphors. Students will learn that a simile compares two things using the words, "like" or "as" while metaphors compare two things without using these words. They will practice identifying sentences as similes or metaphors. Students will then participate in an interactive read aloud where they will become figurative language detectives and record the examples found in the text. Learners will consider what two things the author is comparing and why they chose to make that comparison. After we finish reading, students will have the chance to write their own stories using similes and metaphors.
