US Grade 5
In this eight week fifth grade math flexible schedule course, students will learn fifth-grade math skills as outlined by the Common Core State Standards. They will learn how to read and create line plots, how to solve for area and perimeter, how to find volume of rectangular prisms, classifying polygons, and solving multi-step word problems. This course will get your child ready to master these fifth grade math concepts. Each week, students will get access to a comprehensive instructional video where they learn each concept, and will then practice applying their new math skills through high-quality printable worksheets and interactive math tools such as Nearpod. **Your child does not have to have taken parts 1 or 3 of this course in order to be successful with these skills. Each skill is taught in isolation and each trimester/part has a different focus. How is the Class Structured? ⭐Students will begin each lesson by watching the pre-recorded mini-lesson. This will allow them to enter each week with the background knowledge needed to meet the objectives. ⭐Students will then complete a Nearpod lesson, interacting with other students on the collaboration board, participating in the Nearpod games, and completing math vocabulary practice within the lesson. ⭐Students may complete a homework assignment related to the week's lesson. They will be welcome to turn their homework in so that the teacher can provide personalized feedback and guidance. ⭐Each week, they will engage in a conversation with other members of the group on the classroom board about how the week's content can be applied to a real-life situation. Games, additional handouts and activities, and links to interactive practice tools will be provided throughout the course, when applicable. Which Skills Will Be Covered In This Course? Week 1: Making, Reading, and Solving Problems With Line Plots (with fractions) Week 2: Understanding Volume Week 3: Finding Volume Word Problems (game) Week 4: Attributes of Two Dimensional Figures & Classifying Figures Week 5: Finding Area and Perimeter (with and without fractional sides) Week 6: Creating Characters: Area and Perimeter Project Week 7: Solving Word Problems Using "CUBES" Week 8: Fifth Grade Math Jeopardy Game (all skills review class) This course is great for current fifth graders, fifth-grade summer review, and fourth-grade students who are looking to get ahead on fifth-grade math concepts.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Massachusetts Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hello, and welcome to Outschool! My name is Ms. Kristin. I am a licensed elementary school teacher with my Masters Degree in Elementary Education for grades 1-6. I absolutely love teaching! I have taught grades 3, 4, and 5 in a brick-and-mortar school for over eight years and have been teaching online, too, for the past four years. As a classroom teacher, I have become very familiar with elementary subjects for grades 1-5 and their corresponding standards in math, English, reading, writing, science, social studies, and test prep. Familiarity with different grade levels allows me to differentiate my instruction and guide students to higher levels of thinking as they master grade-level concepts and seek to enhance their skills. My lessons are based on Common Core State Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards.

Educational Philosophy:
I believe that students succeed when they are engaged, valued, and when lessons are personalized in some way to each individual student. During each lesson, I use positive reinforcement and gentle guidance to ensure students feel safe sharing their ideas. I strive to foster an inclusive and relaxed classroom environment and encourage students to participate, learn from each other, and have fun with the materials.
I am excited to get the opportunity to teach your child, and hope to see them in the classroom soon!
