Description

Class Experience

Students will practice reading strategies, such as, summarizing, asking, and answering questions while reading, and retell.
Students will practice strategies for understanding text, such as recognizing an author's point of view, describing the characteristics of different types of stories, determining whether a detail is a fact or an opinion, understand and identify cause and effect relationships, identify the main idea, and supporting details, and sequence events in order.
Students will practice grammar and mechanics, for example, types of sentences, using proper and common nouns, using commas correctly, recognize singular and plural nouns, identify and use prepositional phrases, and identify and use past-tense verbs.
Students will practice word work, like homophones, identifying synonyms and antonyms, identify and understand multiple-meaning words, and define and use the suffixes -ed and -s.
Students will also think, collaborate, and discuss to promote higher-order learning.
I have Bachelor's Degrees in Elementary Education and Psychology from Rowan University. I have 25 years of experience in the classroom ages 3-11. I have taught in public and private schools in the United States and I taught for 10 years at the International School of Hamburg in Germany. I have been on Outschool for several years.
Students will be assigned word practice homework each week.
A PDF with all reading and worksheets will be sent each week.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
