Students will learn the basics of playing the fife. The fife is a great introduction to the flute and has been used as an easy and inexpensive instrument to prepare the student for the flute since it is very similar to the other instrument. Student will learn Song Book 1 which is published by Best Start Publishing. There is an audio track that accompanies each piece and helps with practice and performance. Lesson 1 - Students will practice with the head joint before learning the notes we will use in this book. They will read rhythms (p. 5) and learn three pieces on p. 5-7. 2) Lesson 2 - We review the pieces on p. 5-7 and then learn new pieces on p. 8-10. We will also use rhythms to clap and play on each note (B,A, G). 3) Lesson Three - We will begin with review and learn pages 10-12. 4) Lesson 4 - We will review older pieces and learn p. 13-15. We will also try some of the audio tracks and have the students mute themselves and play along with me and the audio track. 5) We will do a review of the whole book and learn the material on p. 16-17. We will end the class with a "recital" where students can play their favorite piece for the class.
Learning Goals
Students will learn B, A, G on the fife and basic rhythms and embouchure position which will help the student transition to the flute.
