Class Experience

This class will be driven by instruction. Supplemental materials will be utilized to support and enhance the learning process. At times, students will be asked to make use of thoughtfully chosen reading and visual supplements, selected by the instructor, to clarify the subject matter.

Instruction will leave learners with an understanding of the structure and societal relationships that provided order during the Middle Ages. Upon completion of this course, learners will have a basic understanding of the role of monarchs, nobles, knights, and peasants.

For the most part, this course will be based on discussion and essential questions that are designed to provoke analysis and higher thought. Student interaction is encouraged and will be used to enhance the learning experience.

Prior experience with this subject matter is not required. As the instructor, I will assess the needs of the learners immediately and use the learners' prior knowledge to customize instruction for the class.

Learning Goals

Students who participate in this learning experience will advance their understanding of social, economic and political systems. Though Feudalism is the primary focus, connections to the functioning of modern society will be included in the study.

    Teacher expertise and credentials
For twenty years I have taught a variety of Social Studies and Civics courses. The Feudal system, and European History, has been a regular part of the curriculum that I have taught for more than a decade. Furthermore, I have traveled Europe extensively. These travels have enhanced my understanding of the history of European nations. In addition, I have completed Master’s coursework in World History with a focus on European Studies.
