Students will learn basic Genetic vocabulary such as dominant, recessive, homozygous and heterozygous and learn how to predict probability of genetic crosses by working Punnett Squares. All of the examples that we work through will have a festive Christmas theme. For example, we will calculate the probability of the Grinch passing down his trait of having a small heart. Students will be able to understand how Rudolph's parents both with brown noses had a red-nosed reindeer. The learning will be interactive as the students will be making predictions as they complete Punnett squares. I will guide the students through the leaning with discussions and questions and the students will be interacting with each other. Previous knowledge of Genetics is not required as this class is an introduction to Genetics.
