Class experience
Hello! And welcome to the Feminist Film Club! This class is a casual and welcoming learning space for students of all gender and sexual identities. Students are encouraged to share their pronouns in their Zoom name. Everyone is welcome into this club! It’s a supportive environment where you can meet with new friends, talk pop culture, watch amazing movies you may have not otherwise heard of, and learn some fun film history and theory as a bonus. This club offers an informal learning...
This class is taught in English.
Students will delve into deep conversations with peers about gender, race, and film. We'll learn about different countries and cultures that the films are set in. Students are encouraged to develop critical thinking skills about the media that they consume. This club also introduces students to introductory film concepts, which supports English language development skills, critical analysis skills, and media literacy. This club is discussion heavy; members are encouraged to share their thoughts, ideas, and questions and listen to the ideas of the others members. We work hard as a club to build each other up and foster a community of mutual respect and support. We play lots of trivia and occasionally include a film-related DIY!
I am a Ph.D. student in Gender, Feminist, and Women's studies with a specialty in film theory. I've been teaching kids and teens for over nine years on the intersections of gender, race, disability, and social justice!

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I have included films that are age appropriate and have been approved by other parents of OutSchool students. Please note the ratings for each film listed above. I have specifically chosen films that do not contain any explicit content, however some films may have brief language or violence.
