Throughout history, spies have played important roles in gathering intelligence and infiltrating operations. The American Civil War was no exception. This class will look at several women who engaged in various activities to provide military information to the opposing side during the war. Both Union and Confederate spies will be discussed including Harriet Tubman, Belle Boyd, Rose O'Neal Greenhow and Pauline Cushman. Learners will understanding the methods of spying used during the American Civil War. Learners will be able to identify women who spied for both the Union and Confederate Armies during the American Civil War. Learners will discuss the role of women as spies during the American Civil War.
