Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
In this class, students will be taught about cats featured in folklore across different cultures and time periods. We will cover several stories of felines in folklore, including Puss in Boots, the Yule Cat, The King of Cats, and The Cat and the Crab. We will make connections between the stories and also compare & contrast differing views of cats throughout the world.

I will open the class by asking students to share any knowledge they already have about stories featuring cats. I will give an overview of feline folklore and then share specific stories featuring cats: Puss in Boots, The King of Cats, The Cat and the Crab, and the Yule Cat. We will then have discussions about each story. Through the stories and discussions, students will be introduced to folklore and have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and understanding of both oral and literary folk stories, fables, myths, legends, and fairy tales.

I enjoy active student participation and encourage students to interact with me and with one another. I use slides and video clips to enhance the learning experience.

There is no prior knowledge required for this class.
