40 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Join me for a show and tell scavenger hunt! This class will be very interactive and dynamic as learners: - Move! (1-minute to search their surroundings to make their selections) - Identify Feelings: Proud, Excited, Happy, Frustrated, Calm - Practice Self-Awareness: Share their item and reflect on their experience - Increase EQ (Emotional Intelligence): Practice empathic responses to other learners feelings/items (with support and modeling by teacher) We will start class by learning about all of our friends who came to play! Each learner will be given the opportunity to introduce themselves and tell the class where they are from and what they like to play. Next, we'll talk about some basic feelings; I'll show sad, happy, angry and surprised emoji faces as learners try to identify each one and are invited to show their own 'feeling face' We will talk about the feelings we have and how they differ from others, emphasizing that all feelings are okay!! I will provide a brief overview of each feeling (proud, excited, happy, frustrated, calm) and will share my own item before asking learners to find theirs. After everyone returns from the 1-minute search*, each learner will be invited to share their item with the class, explaining why it makes them feel happy, excited, proud, etc., and as a class we will support each learner by relating (e.g., Has anyone else ever felt frustrated when your block tower wouldn't stand?) and thanking the learner for sharing (encouraging verbalization/normalization of feelings). I also want to note that this class is designed to be all-inclusive; some children are observers and that's okay! All are welcome and I will adapt the class to fit the needs of every learner. *Learners are welcome to prepare before class by gathering their items to show, it is the preference of your learner : ) **Please be advised, If the class does not fill, I am still happy to hold the class but we may not use the entire class time
Learning Goals
Learners will learn to not only identify what items/experiences make them feel certain emotions but will also interact with others to understand how feelings look different for each individual.
It is vital for children (and adults!) to understand that emotions manifest differently for everyone and what may feel trivial to one person, could feel dire for the next.
By practicing empathy in this safe, classroom setting, learners are equipping themselves with the skills necessary to understand how another person is feeling and respond in an appropriate way.
