Class Experience
US Grade 1 - 5
***Since the launch of Outschool's new 1 to 1 format, I've switched my tutoring sessions to private. This ensures my learners can keep their current, long-standing time slots. If you are interested in tutoring, please message me to come up with some availability! I look forward to meeting your learners!*** The OG approach is a systematic, multi-sensory way of instruction that focuses on phonological awareness and other scientifically based language structures. In this ongoing course, learners will study structured literacy such as phoneme awareness, morphology, orthography, semantics, syntax, and text structure to improve their reading skills. By using visual, auditory, and kinesthetic techniques, learners will build connections to their internal language centers and develop brand-new reading skills at their own pace. They will walk away from each meeting with newfound confidence as they reach their reading goals. ***Each weekly schedule will be custom-created for the learner. Below you will find a sample schedule. Sample Schedule: 1. Week of 1/17- vowels/consonants 2. Week of 1/24- syllables (open/closed) 3. Week 1/31- vccv pattern 4. Week 2/7- fszl rule Lesson Format: 1) Review (Sight Words, Phonemic Awareness, Visual Drills, Auditory Drills, Blending Drills, Concepts) 2) New Material (Graphemes, Phonemes, Syllable Types, Syllabication Rules, Spelling Rules, Word Patterns) 3) Reading (Controlled Text, Fluency) I promote fun, happy learning environments where kids are free to talk and laugh with each other and with me. I believe that the best learning happens when learners are happy, engaged, comfortable, and supported.
Learning Goals
Learners will work through the Orton-Gillingham scope and sequence at their own pace. They will improve their phonemic awareness, decoding skills, fluency, and syllabication.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Learners will need someone to help them practice. Parents and Guardians will love to see their progress!
Supply List
I will have internet resources available to learners who want to use what I show them in class. They will be free and not required. Due to the multisensory nature of our lessons, students will need one or two tactile supplies. (For example, rice, sprinkles, shaving cream, playdough, a soft blanket all can work!) No one needs to buy anything to make this class work. I am happy to assist each learner in finding what works for them. I will provide printables to use for each class.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I always make sure that my students feel supported and proud of their abilities.
