Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
Beginner Level
Get ready to Tune Into your feelings & Turn Up the music!

In our high energy classes we sing, dance & play our way through Social Emotional Learning (SEL). In each class we:

-start with a warm up stretch/meet & greet
-play follow the leader to learn a series of dance moves
-play fun games from my Problem Solving (made easy) Kit
-for the grande finale we put it all together with an epic dance party, puppet play & cool down!

I use music that encourages children to be interactive via call & response, guided breathing and movements. The positive affirmation songs I've created teach the 7 steps of the Problem Solving Game, making it easy for kids to learn.

The topics we cover in the Guppies Level 1 Problem Solvers series are based on the first 4 (of 7) steps of the Problem Solving Game:

1. Life: I am Safe "Uh-Oh, We Have a Problem."

2. Freedom: I Feel "What am I Feeling?"

3. Strength: I Take Action "Ready to Solve."

4. Respect: I Love "What Will Make us Both Happy?"

Every week includes:
-1 interactive Feel, Dance, Play video class
-Each class builds on the next, getting your child the repetition they need to strengthen their skills.

So if you're tired of meltdowns, arguments & fights over toys you'll be happy to hear in our classes I use the Top 3 Secrets to Create More Calm in Your Home.
I've learned these secrets teaching dance, music & yoga to young children for over 10 years as an Early Childhood Education Education & Arts Specialist, they are:

#1 The importance of Social Emotional Learning
#2 Teaching children via songs, games & repetition (ie FUN) to fast-track learning
#3 Make it easy!

DID YOU KNOW: learning social emotional skills by the age of 6 is the biggest contributing factor to adult success.
There’s a 20 year study that shows the biggest factor to adult success can be attributed to one thing by the age of 6: their social emotional skills.
Can children regulate their emotions?
Can they solve problems with other children?
Do they understand their feelings?

I teach these skills through Heartfullness. Heartfullness is the missing piece in “mindfulness”. By letting love lead the way, heartfullness connects the mind & body (mindfulness) to the heart (emotions).

Mind + Body = Mindfulness

Heart + Mind + Body = Heartfullness

OPTIONAL SUPPLIES
You are welcome to break out the scarves, streamers & dance clothes but they are not required. You're also able to get the Problem Solving (made easy) Kit we use in class. The kit is is a game that helps parents, caregivers & educators teach children how to get from Crisis2Calm via emotional regulation.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL GAME PLAY EXAMPLES:
In class we play with my Feelings Card Deck, a 25 card deck showing a range of emotions from simple to more complex. There are a few games that can be played with the card deck, for example: "Guess the Feeling" I hold up a card & the children guess the feeling.
In Puppet Play Time, I use a puppet to help play our "What Are You Feeling?" game. I spread out a selection of feelings from the card deck & each child gets a turn to pick 1 feeling they are feeling today. The goal of playing games from the card deck is to get children to understand & name different feelings, then be able to express them.

I can't wait to see you in class!

Parental Guidance
Parental/caregiver participation is highly encouraged as one of the best ways children learn is through modeling, if they see you doing it they are more likely to join in & learn, especially if they are learning something new. A clear space for dancing, bare feet or tennis shoes, and parent/caregiver supervision is requested to prevent injury. Injuries can occur if not properly supervised.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Everything we do in class is developmentally appropriate & draws from my over 15 years experience & schooling in Early Childhood Education:

I’ve been an Early Childhood Education & Arts Specialist teaching dance, music & yoga for over 10 years. I bring my hands-on experience with children together with a strong foundation of schooling in Early Childhood Education, heavily influenced by Reggio Emilia & Montessori philosophies. Working directly with babies to school-aged children for over 15 years, I’v seen first hand the struggles children have regulating & expressing their emotions as well as being supported in doing so.

It hurt my heart to see my students, and my own daughter, struggle with their emotions & simple problem solving skills with other children without support. Over the years I’ve created games, songs & dances to address gaps in social emotional learning for young children which is now the Heartfullness Project. A core play based Social Emotional Learning curriculum, the Heartfullness Project includes games, music, dance, children and caregiver classes, and the Problem-Solving (made easy) Kit.
