In this course students will be able to increase their knowledge of the school setting and increase their confidence as they prepare to head back to school or join the classroom for the first time.
Class experience
In this course students will color their own character and walk them through a day at school. Exploring what it might be like to enter a classroom, meet other students, use classroom tools, and participate in a group. Students will take their personalized character through a social story to explore these areas and implement techniques to increase their confidence in tackling new things. Students will gain an understanding of what to expect from the school setting. Students will also increase their confidence about starting the school year.
This course focuses on increasing confidence which are useful across various settings and at all ages. I have had more than 3 years of experience teaching lessons regarding confidence skills as a School Counselor. I have taught these topics using multiple different curriculum programs that align with most state standards for Character Learning or Social Emotional Learning. Previously, I spent time teaching a special education pre- school class where there was a heavy focus on character learning and techniques for adjusting to transitions such as starting starting school.
A copy of the social story used in this lesson will be provided as a file you can download and print. The student can color along if they choose to.
