Class Experience

This class introduces students to the impact that dopamine levels and dopamine transporter density have on the ADHD brain. Students will identify strategies they are currently using to satisfy their "hungry brains". Students will evaluate which of these strategies are healthy and which may lead to distraction and less healthy choices. As a class, we will brainstorm other activities that can keep student brains busy and help them focus. Students will then create their own "dopa-menu", a concept developed by Eric Tivers of the podcast ADHD Rewired and YouTuber Jessica McCabe of the popular channel How to ADHD. This menu will include a balance of healthy choices (entrees), less healthy but extra engaging activities (desserts), quick fixes (appetizers), and extra fun activities (specials). If we have time we will discuss the concept of making "entrees" more accessible and "desserts" less accessible.
